At a recent ceremony in Washington, D.C., in May, U.S. Secretary of Commerce Penny Pritzker presented Michael P. May, Ph.D., Chief Operating Officer for Wisdom Natural Brands®, with the President’s “E” Award. This award is bestowed upon American businesses and organizations which make significant contributions to the increase of U.S. exports. Successive years of record export growth and the demonstration of innovative international marketing, specifically to increase exports, are among the significant factors in determining winners of this award.

Secretary Pritzker singled out the makers of SweetLeaf® saying, “By selling Made-in-America goods and services internationally, winners are creating jobs in Arizona and their local communities. Congratulations to Wisdom Natural Brands. Exports are critical to our nation’s competitiveness in the global marketplace and solidify our country’s economic leadership across the globe.”

In the last thirty years, the export of U.S. goods and services has almost doubled, increasing from 7.5% to 13.4% of the GDP or $2.34 trillion dollars in 2014. Also, jobs supported by exports have skyrocketed from 1.8 million in 2009 to a current total of approximately 11.7 million. Wisdom Natural Brands is proudly participating in that economic expansion by making the world a sweeter place with the SweetLeaf line and other natural sweetener products.

The “E” awards have a long history in the U.S. Initially, they were presented to war plants during World War II in recognition of production excellence. In 1961, President Kennedy revived the “E” symbol of excellence to honor and recognize America’s exporters. The companies honored in 2015, Wisdom Natural Brands included, have done outstanding work to reduce barriers to foreign markets and open doors to increase trade around the world. According to May, “A key part of our strategy for growth in the coming years will originate from customers and partners in the global market place.”
