SweetLeaf Stevia® Sweetener Leads the Cause for Green Business
Gilbert, AZ (04/21/10) – Amidst today’s fast-paced and technology-driven society, SweetLeaf Stevia® Sweetener has stayed loyal to natural business practices since its inception over 25 years ago. SweetLeaf® remains committed to utilizing “green” methods in all agricultural and manufacturing operations.
There are several factors that set the SweetLeaf® manufacturing process apart from its competitors. The SweetLeaf® method is a completely sustainable, totally green process from start to finish.
“At Wisdom Natural Brands™, we believe in not only keeping the body healthy, but also the environment. When searching for a stevia farm to partner with for our SweetLeaf Stevia® Sweetener, we turned to South America. I met directly with native farmers of several South American countries and contracted them to grow high-quality stevia that we could in turn use for our stevia sweetener. Providing the farmers with an incentive to grow crops bettered the lives of everyone involved, from the farmer to the consumer. Our products allow us to provide good people with steady work and in turn, we can provide consumers with high-quality stevia leaves, which contain 100 important nutrients that are vital to the function and well-being of the human body,” notes Jim May.
SweetLeaf’s® stevia leaves are processed using only cool, purified water. Because no chemicals, solvents or alcohols are used in the extraction or purification process, there is no waste whatsoever. The stevia leaf residue becomes cattle feed or ground mulch, and the spent water is saved in large tanks. The local farmers fill their tanker trucks and use the highly nutritive water to irrigate their growing crops, stimulating root growth while sweetening their fruits and vegetables. Even the box is made from 100% recycled materials.
Also, SweetLeaf’s® chosen variety of stevia plants, grown in the optimal climactic conditions of Western Hemisphere, produce bountiful harvests six to eight times a year for the entire five to seven years of the plants life cycle.
SweetLeaf Stevia® Sweetener is processed using only cool, purified water. Other stevia sweeteners use chemicals, solvents or alcohols (such as methanol and ethanol) in their extraction process, leaving residue requiring masking agents or flavoring compounds to disguise them, resulting in a harsh aftertaste.
About SweetLeaf Stevia®
It all started with one man who had a dream – Jim May, Founder of Wisdom Natural Brands™.
Stevia is a naturally sweet herb native to Paraguay that has been consumed for centuries. After tasting stevia leaves given to him by a Peace Corps worker, May made it his mission to bring the extract from the deliciously sweet plant to the United States. May is world known as “The Father of Stevia.” The process involves taking the highest-quality leaves of the stevia plant and extracting their naturally sweet taste with only cool, purified water – no chemicals, solvents or additives that adulterate and cover up the great taste created by nature.
May first traveled to Paraguay to import stevia in 1982. His most satisfying victory came in 2008, when GRAS Associates and Life Science Research Office, two completely independent panels of scientists, awarded SweetLeaf Stevia® GRAS (Generally Recognized as Safe) status, pursuant to FDA regulations. This allowed SweetLeaf® products made from its new, revolutionary extraction technology to be labeled as sweeteners. SweetLeaf® could finally use the word “sweet” to describe its product, now known as SweetLeaf Sweetener®. The FDA granted a no-questions letter to SweetLeaf®‘s GRAS status in 2009, validating all the hard work done by May over more than a quarter of a century.
Wisdom Natural Brands™, a leading U.S. manufacturer of stevia products, offers SweetLeaf Sweetener® in convenient double-serving packets. SweetLeaf Sweetener® is sold in boxes containing either 50 or 100 packets. Each packet replaces two teaspoons of sugar. SweetLeaf® is also sold in the SweetLeaf Stevia Plus® Shaker Bottle for easy home use and SweetLeaf SteviaTabs™ Dissolvable Tablets for easy on-the-go use.
Today, May is a leading expert on stevia and travels across the Americas promoting the benefits of the stevia plant.
